Youth praised for rescue after car accident
A teenager rescued his mother, brother and sister from a car accident, despite suffering a fractured sternum himself, following a vehicle collision in Essex.
His mother, who suffered a broken arm in the road traffic accident, told the Thurrock Gazette that she was really proud of her son whose quick actions made sure the family was safe after her car went out of control.
She said that he managed to open the driver's door after the car crash then he had kept her calm.
"I was really scared. I had the vision the car was going to blow up because lots of smoke was coming out of the engine."
The youth said, "I was quite scared when I saw the smoke coming out of the engine, but nothing was going to stop me getting my mum out.
"I then called the emergency services and then my manager to tell him I would not be in the next day because of the crash."
The 16-year-old's sister, aged 18, and brother, aged 11, were also in the car but were unhurt.
Following the crash, police said a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and driving while disqualified.
If someone is found to be liable for the car accident, the family may wish to consult a no win no fee solicitor about making a compensation claim for the resulting personal injury.
