Drink-driver to pay out compensation to whiplash victim
A woman has been awarded £1,200 in car accident compensation after sustaining whiplash injuries when a drink-driver crashed into her.
Lincoln Crown Court heard how the driver had stolen the vehicle he was driving from a housemate and was three times over the drink-drive limit when he crashed into the woman on Lincoln High Street. The drunk driver fled the scene of the accident but was later caught and arrested by police.
The car crash left the woman with severe whiplash injuries and she had to take several months off work as a care worker to recover.
As a result of the car accident, both vehicles involved in the collision were written off.
The 20-year-old driver, who had only been in the UK for two weeks, admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated vehicle taking, and having no insurance or driving licence.
The judge sentenced the man to a six months suspended sentence and ordered him to pay the woman £1,200 in car accident compensation.
