The Environmental Transport Association (ETA) has expressed concern that credit crunch-related financial pressures are leading motorists to forgo car accident breakdown insurance. They say that the trend to sacrifice this form of car accident insurance is particularly worrying as it comes in the middle of one the UK's coldest winters in several decades, and may mean that unlucky motorists find themselves stranded in subzero temperatures.
Andrew Davis, director of ETA, comments,"It's not just people who can feel flat following the new year festivities."The sub-zero temperatures predicted for early January mean many car batteries will fail."
The news also comes at a time when safety groups such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have taken the opportunity to warn road users that winter car accident hazards such as icy roads have the potential to cause serious personal injury as well as a higher number of minor injuries such as whiplash.
