01/04/2009 Neck injury ends baseball player's career
The struggles of the thousands of people who suffer whiplash injury in car accidents each year has recently attracted attention in Canada and the United States after Canadian professional baseball player Corey Koskie had to retire as a result of complications associated with whiplash injury.
The sportsman told press, "I love being out there, being with the guys, the whole competition." But added, "At some point you have to look at it realistically and say, 'Is it really worth sacrificing the rest of your life for a game?'"
Unlike the majority of people with whiplash, who sustain the neck injury in rear-end car accidents, Koskie suffered his injury while chasing a "pop-up" during a baseball game.
It is not known whether the Canadian will be making a no win, no fee compensation claim for the effects of the career-ending injury.
