The furniture restorer was a passenger in his girlfriend's Toyota Corolla when it was involved in a collision with a four-wheel drive Volvo being driven by a 41-year-old, also from Essex.
The case had been disputed by lawyers representing the defendant's insurance company, who countered that the driver of the Toyota Corolla had been the at-fault party.
However, with the case edging closer to a court date, negotiations between the claimant's personal injury lawyer and the defendant legal team resulted in a compromise whiplash injury settlement.
Although the precise details of the payout remain undisclosed as a condition of settlement, the man who suffered the whiplash injury expressed his ambivalent feelings about the resolution of the case.
"I'm satisfied it's over," he said, "but it could have been over much more quickly if the facts had been accepted more readily."
