Solicitor speaks out against fraud

A leading UK solicitor has spoken out against all parties in the personal injury process who instigate or assist fraudulent compensation claims. Using a whiplash claim as an example, he said, "Cases of fraud are evident from both parties throughout the claim process.

There are claimants out there who are trying to squeeze compensation from what they see as soft targets and there has never been more need for these to be forcibly dealt with. "However, I have been told about a recent occurrence when an intermediary tried to create a personal injury case to pass on to a solicitor.

The intermediary had tried to encourage the victim of a car crash to make a claim for whiplash, even though no injury was suffered. The victim was told that ‘there would be money available' if he did make a claim. "It would have been unlikely that this case would have stood up as there was no medical evidence but this is a shocking attempt to abuse the system. Fortunately the victim rejected the intermediary's ‘advice'."

He also condemned the so-called "whiplash gangs" who stage car accidents in order to make fraudulent compensation claims.
