Man defends car crash claim conspiracy charges
Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester is currently hearing the case of a man accused of conspiring with a car crash claim gang to make a claim a for whiplash damages.
The court heard how the 29-year-old submitted a no win, no fee whiplash claim on the day of an apparent rear-end collision at a Bolton roundabout. However, it is alleged that the man was not even at the scene of the accident; instead, it is argued that a notorious car accident fraudster staged the collision on his behalf.
William Baker, for the prosecution, outlined, "The Crown say he must have participated [in the fraud]. Otherwise how was [the accused] to hand his name to the driver at the scene?"
Two other men, both of whom attempted to make passenger whiplash claims for the same incident, have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud; the 29-year-old, however, continues to maintain his innocence.
