The man had been on a night out with a friend in Middlesbrough and was getting in a taxi home when the accident took place. As the man opened the door of the moving taxi, the driver braked and the sliding door slammed shut on the man's head.
After being admitted to hospital doctors found that he had suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He was in intensive care for 16 days and endured two operations in this time followed by rehabilitation.
The personal injuries caused in the accident have left him severely disabled and unable to work.
He is now claiming £300,000 in road traffic accident compensation from the driver of the cab due to his negligence and poor maintenance of the taxi door.
