Lollipop lady left seriously injured following car accident
The family of a lollipop lady, who was run over by a car while working, have launched a claim for road traffic accident compensation.
The 59-year-old woman from South Shields, in the county of Tyne and Wear, had been on duty when she was hit by a car, despite wearing a high visibility jacket and holding a lollipop sign.
She was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where she spent two days in intensive care before being moved to Walkergate Park Centre's specialised brain injury ward.
As a result of the car accident, the woman has been left with devastating personal injuries.
The 69-year-old grandmother who had been driving the car involved was found guilty of careless driving at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court. She was fined £95 and had four penalty points added to her licence.
The husband of the injured lollipop lady has since launched a claim for road traffic accident compensation against the driver's insurers.
