Shatner motorbike accident won't get him in leather
Star Trek actor William Shatner has been quoted on the internet claiming that motorcycle leathers are foolish in the California sunshine, despite having been in a motorbike accident some years ago.
According to the site, he says "I ride with sandals and shorts and a t-shirt." This is despite his motorbike crash experience:
"One time, I was driving along and the bike slid from under me, and I skidded across the two lane highway.
"I grabbed the bike hauled it up and got back on. I had to get to Los Angeles. I had a doll to take to my grandchild. I got back on the bike and my clothes are shredded. I realised I'm bleeding."
The sight of a film and TV star having been involved in a road traffic accident that left him bloodied and near-naked was one that claimed the attention of other motorists. It seems to have been this that stayed with the actor, rather than the sense of personal injury, or the risk of being held partly responsible for motorbike accident injuries due to the neglect of his own safety, reducing any potential compensation claim.
UK riders are not advised to follow this actor's example.
