Manchester United player in car crash
Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder Anderson was one of several people to suffer whiplash after his £125,000 Audi R8 crashed in a rural road in Portugal.
Although Anderson was a passenger at the time of the accident it is understood that it was his vehicle that was being driven; in addition to the footballer, both the male driver and a female passenger sustained whiplash in the one-car accident.
However, the car crash could have proved far worse: only moments after Anderson and his friends were pulled from the wreckage the supercar exploded, leaving behind little more than a burnt-out shell.
All three of the vehicle's occupants were taken to a hospital in Braga to be treated for whiplash, concussion and other injuries.
"There injuries were, luckily, only very minor and could not be described as serious or life-threatening," said a spokesperson from the hospital.
"However, the female passenger's injuries were the most numerous and consequently required the most treatment. It must be stressed that even these were only minor," the spokesperson added.
One witness to the car accident told a Portuguese newspaper, "I thought he (Anderson) was dead.
"My brother dragged him out of the car and we put the flames out before the entire car burned down."
It is not known whether any no win, no fee neck injury claims will be launched in relation to the incident.
