Cyclist to make claim after suffering brain injury

A cyclist from Banstead has called for stricter sentences for careless drivers after he suffered several injuries, including a brain injury, when a young driver struck him.

The 45-year-old was cycling near his home in Banstead when a 19-year-old driver knocked him off his bike. He was admitted to hospital with multiple facial fractures, a fractured skull, as well as several broken bones.

Following the incident, the man spent two months in hospital and he has been unable to return to work due to his injuries – medical experts have stated that it is unlikely that he will be able to undertake physically demanding activities again.

In a court hearing, the driver was given four penalty points on his licence and fined £300 after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.

It has been reported that the cyclist is now launching a compensation claim against the driver's insurance company after suffering the brain injury.
