Fine, compensation order and ticking-off for road rage pensioner
A 71-year-old pensioner from Tyneside has received a fine and been ordered to pay a man personal injury compensation after pleading guilty to a number of car crash-related offences.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how the incident centred around a minor car crash for which both men had immediately denied responsibility. However, after the defendant was informed that the other man intended to resolve the matter by calling the police, he drove away in his car, colliding with the antiques dealer in the process and causing a number of cuts and bruises.
"You drove away in a manner described as both careless and reckless. A man of your age should know better than to behave in such a reckless and frankly juvenile way when involved in a road accident," the judge told the defendant, while ordering him to pay a fine of £500 and car crash compensation of £1000.
