Racing teenagers kill elderly couple
Two teenagers using a bypass as a race track have caused a car crash that has left an elderly couple dead and several more injured, it was reported in court.
The 18-year-old motorist was driving his Vauxhall Corsa on the wrong side of the road when he was said to collide into the elderly couple's car, killing them both and seriously injuring one of his own passengers.
The Corsa driver was racing another teenager driving a red Peugeot and the pair are reported to have been dangerously "twitching", pulling out from behind cars they had caught up with.
Another couple also struck by the Corsa suffered minor injuries as the teenage driver hit their car as he overtook them.
Although the male driver of the Peugeot racing the Corsa was not directly involved in the traffic collision, a judge has said that he is also responsible for loss of life after witnesses spotted the pair racing each other along the road.
It is yet unknown whether any car accident compensation claims will be made and the courts have yet to sentence either driver for their involvement in the car crash.
