An 11-year-old girl has revealed how she is lucky to be alive after a car smashed through the wall of her home.
The Bedfordshire schoolgirl was asleep in bed when the bizarre car accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving her family's converted barn heavily damaged.
Amazingly, the girl, her parents and her two younger brothers survived the incident without personal injury and the youngster has insisted that it was a wardrobe that saved her life.
She told journalists: "I was fast asleep curled up in a duvet when I heard the bang. My wardrobe was against the wall and it feel on top of me which probably stopped all the bricks banging on my head. The heavy door also stopped the car coming in too much."
A man and woman who are believed to have been occupying the vehicle at the time of the car accident fled the scene but were later arrested by police officers.
