The former plastics engineer had been travelling from his home in the city to visit relatives in Market Weighton when a Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction attempted to overtake another vehicle without first sighting the claimant's Honda.
In order to avoid a more serious head-on car accident, the 67-year-old swerved into a grass verge, suffering whiplash in the process. The driver of the other vehicle also suffered personal injury after colliding with a garden wall.
The claimant told press that the crash has left him "very shaken" and that he is now nervous when travelling by car, both as a driver and a passenger.
His car accident claim was made with one of the larger no win, no fee firms in England's North and was settled out-of-court following an admission of liability by the defendant's insurer.
