Girlfriend cleared of causing partner's death in fatal crash
Relatives of a man killed in a car accident have spoken out in support of his girlfriend who was cleared of causing his death in the crash that killed him in November 2008.
The Polish girl was travelling with her 28-year-old boyfriend home from a meal at Dexter's restaurant in Weybridge when her car careered off Heath Road.
The woman's partner grabbed the wheel of the car to save his girlfriend and took the impact of the tree they hit on his side of the car.
He died three days later in hospital after sustaining a skull fracture.
Following the accident, the crown prosecution service was prosecuting the female driver for causing death by dangerous driving. However the family of the deceased driver was against the charges and blamed poor road conditions for the car crash.
Speaking of her son's crash, the mother of the deceased man said,
"They both had seatbelts on, she wasn't speeding, the car was in working order, she wasn't drink-driving and she wasn't on a phone. This should never have come to court. It was a complete waste of taxpayers' money."
In the five years leading up to the car accident, there were 33 recorded injury accidents, three serious and 30 minor accidents causing 49 casualties on the road.
