UK's most accident prone street gets wrapped up
In a bid to curb the street's high car accident claim rate, the UK's most accident-prone road has been covered in 1,500 sq metres of bubble wrap to highlight the dangers of driving in winter.
Somerville Road in Worcester generates the highest number of accident claims in the UK with more than ten claims being made every year, which for a small street, is surprisingly high.
Everything from cars, bins, trees, gates and even houses were covered in the wrapping to try to ensure the safe driving message hit home.
Set up by a car insurance company, the stunt took eight men more than 12 hours to complete the bubble scene.
One resident said, "I live just up from the houses that were wrapped up so the sight of them all wrapped up took me by surprise."
Head of the car insurance company in charge of the bubble wrapping said, "In times of need, we bubble wrap all our little breakables to keep them safe and sound – so why not a whole street?"
It is hoped that the stunt will help raise awareness of the need to drive even more carefully during bad weather to help prevent future accidents and more car accident claims for personal injury compensation.
