Relatives of a family killed in one of the first crashes to draw attention to deadly defects in Toyota accelerators have instructed no win, no fee lawyers to pursue car crash compensation.
The car accident compensation writ filed at San Diego County Superior Court states that "the car began to accelerate on its own", reaching 120mph, before hitting another vehicle, rolling over and exploding into flames.
The accident was one of many incidents which prompted the worldwide recall of millions of Toyota vehicles in order to replace floor mats that caused the accelerator to stick.
The last moments of the family's tragedy were recorded by 911 emergency call operators. The driver's brother-in-law can be heard to say, "Our accelerator is stuck ... We're in trouble ... there is no brakes."
The writ alleges that the family's car was "defective when it left the control of each defendant" and that "adequate warnings of the danger were not given".
