Baby delivered despite mothers fatal car crash injuries
Following a tragic car crash in Germany, a baby was delivered by caesarean section despite his mother's fatal injuries this weekend.
The car accident occurred when a French driver lost control of her vehicle while travelling at 100 miles per hour along an autobahn. This vehicle smashed into the central crash barrier, and travelled along it at speed, causing a large piece of metal to be thrown into the air and into the pregnant woman's car.
The pregnant woman and her husband both suffered serious personal injury, but a surgeon and his assistant who had been travelling behind their car were able to treat her at the scene before she had emergency surgery in Wolfsburg. The baby was delivered moments before the mother died.
A spokesman for the hospital said, "The child will live. It is a miracle that he has survived."
Although seriously hurt, the woman's husband is expected to recover from his personal injury. Family of the dead woman are expected to take her son home soon. No statement was made regarding the family's intentions of making a car crashinjury compensation claim. The French woman in the road traffic accident is not believed to be injured.
