Paris violence continues to rage

Violent riots in the Paris suburbs have continued this week following the death of two teenagers who were killed in a motorcycle accident at the weekend.

Youths took to the streets just hours after the pair died following a collision with a police car, resulting in widespread chaos and the destruction of the town's police station. Shops have also been looted and cars have been overturned.

The police have launched an investigation into the fatal motorbike accident and a spokesman issued a statement saying: "We are sorry about the death of these young people, but it appears that they were unfortunately the victims of a road traffic accident."

Local residents claim there was more to the teenagers' death, however, and have accused the police of fleeing the scene after hitting the motorbike.

One man alleged: "They hit them from behind. They saw they were in pain but they didn't help. The police tried to drive off by starting the car. They couldn't start their car because it was damaged, so they ran away."

Extra police officers have now been drafted in to try and halt the violence triggered by the motorcycle accident and French president Nicolas Sarkozy has also appealed for calm.

When the chaos calms down, it is likely that the families of the teenage motorcyclists will talk to personal injury lawyers about the possibility of making accident claims for compensation.
