North Yorkshire motorbike accident deaths cut

It has been revealed that North Yorkshire is on course to achieve its lowest number of motorbike accident deaths for several years.

So far this year 11 riders have died as the result of motorcycle accidents and, while still 11 too many, this is a significant reduction on the 20 people that lost their lives in 2005.

North Yorkshire Police are pleased with the cut in numbers and attribute it in no small part to the strict policy which has seen them clamp down hard on anti-social road users and those breaking the speed limit.

Assistant Chief Constable David Collins told reporters, "We want visitors to enjoy our county and its scenic roads, but will not tolerate those that speed and ride or drive dangerously, or those who spoil other people's enjoyment and peace."

Pleased with the reduced number of deaths and serious personal injuries caused by motorbike accidents, he added, "Riders across the region have taken on our message that enjoyable riding need not be dangerous riding, and have responded responsibly in their thousands."
