Wife urges riders to pad up

An woman from Plymouth who would probably have lost her husband in a motorcycle accident recently were it not for the fact he was wearing protective clothing has spoken publicly about the importance of motorcyclists ensuring they have the correct safety gear.

The wife and mother-of-two, whose husband suffered multiple fractures and bruising in the incident, told the Plymouth Herald, "I feel so strongly about this. I want to emphasise – please wear the right stuff. It's not against the law, but I see people out there all the time biking in just jeans and T-shirts. [My husband] was in the Navy for 25 years serving in war zones and always returned without a scratch, but when he was just five or 10 minutes from home this happened to him."

Despite recognising the importance of protective clothing in preventing serious motorcycle accident injuries, the Plymouth woman commented, "I would never let my kids out on motorbikes and, so long as I've got breath left in my body, [my husband] will never ride a bike again."

It is not known whether the woman's husband will be making a no win, no fee claim for the injuries he sustained in the incident.
