£4 million compensation for Italian smash

A woman whose high-flying career as a fashion editor came to an abrupt end following an Italian motorcycle accident has been awarded personal injury compensation of £4 million.

The 37-year-old had travelled to Italy from her London home in January 2000 to attend Milan's popular fashion week, but was involved in a road accident close to the city.

Riding pillion, she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the motorbike crash and suffered serious head injuries. Such was the extent of the wounds she sustained that she now requires 24-hour care and will never be able to work again.

Her personal injury compensation claim was made against the insurer of the man who was riding the bike and the damages received will be used to fund her care for the rest of her life.

Speaking after the £4 million motorcycle accident claim was settled, the former fashion editor's personal injury solicitor told reporters: "She is the innocent victim of a road traffic accident which has devastated her life and the lives of those around her.

"She has, however, shown remarkable fortitude and determination in endeavouring to overcome her disabilities."
