Man in hospital following M27 motorcycle accident

A motorcycle accident caused rush hour chaos and left one man with serious personal injuries on the morning of Tuesday 4th September.

The eastbound carriageway of the M27 between Portsmouth and Southampton was blocked as result of the road traffic accident and tens of thousands of people all across the south faced huge delays in getting to work and dropping the kids off at school.

The motorcycle accident happened shortly after 8am and saw a Honda bike involved in a high speed collision with a Vauxhall Astra.

The driver of the Astra was treated for whiplash and minor back injuries but the motorbike rider was more severely hurt and was rushed to hospital with serious personal injuries.

Currently being treated at Portsmouth's Queen Alexandra Hospital, the 60-year-old motorcyclist is in a critical condition and his family is said to be at his bedside.

Several other car crashes were reported in the vicinity immediately after the motorbike accident as commuters struggled to deal with the traffic jams. A further two road users were also taken to hospital as a result but are not thought to be seriously hurt.

Anybody who witnessed Tuesday morning's motorcycle accident between junctions nine and ten of the M27 has been asked to contact the police urgently.
