A teenager from Warminster is at risk of losing an eye after a mini-motorbike accident. He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol rapidly after the accident, where he has since undergone surgery.
The boy was riding a 50cc Suzuki at speed at the time of the motorcycle crash. He is reported to have not been wearing a helmet.
Police have taken the case as an opportunity to restate their safe riding message. A local officer said "Wearing safety equipment is essential on roads. You should always include a helmet, body armour and sturdy footwear.
"We have seen incidents of children being killed using mini-motor cycles in Wiltshire and this just underlines the fact that while they are good fun they are also very dangerous."
The teenager's personal injury, while serious, appears not to be life-threatening. Police are seeking witnesses to the motorbike accident, which closed the road on which it occurred.
