The man is thought to be in a critical condition with head injuries in Southampton General Hospital following the incident in the Rownhams area of the city. Exact details of the smash are still being investigated but it is known that the moped rider was involved in a collision with a Peugeot 307.
The motorcycle accident resulted in the road being shut as specialist investigators sealed off the scene and there was considerable congestion in the area as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
