Movie star begins awesome motorbike journey

Movie star Ewan McGregor and his pal Charley Boorman are once again facing the possibility of multiple motorcycle accidents as they undertake another gruelling challenge.

Their latest trek, the Long Way Down, will see them ride 15,000 miles from John O'Groats to Cape Town and is the follow-up to their 2004 Long Way Round adventure in which they rode from London to New York.

The previous journey saw them involved in several motorbike accidents and, battling dangerous roads, torrential rivers and extreme weather, the pair were lucky to avoid suffering serious personal injuries.

Their current journey, which began in the far north of Scotland on 12th May, will see them experience similar conditions as well as a host of potentially unstable countries as they take their BMW R1200GS Adventures through deserts, mountains and jungles.

But the pair are undaunted by the possible dangers that lie ahead and have vowed to use their trip to raise as much money for charity as possible.

Moulin Rouge and Trainspotting star McGregor told the media, "Long Way Down is an opportunity to fulfil a dream for both Charley and me.

"That's why we want to help try and fulfil the dreams of others too – especially children – and will do what we can to raise money and awareness for UNICEF's work in Africa through this trip."
