Kylie boyfriend tells of tragic motorbike accident

Kylie Minogue's boyfriend has revealed how a near-fatal motorbike accident 10 years ago has helped him to support the pop princess through her fight with cancer.

Oliver Martinez suffered serious spinal injuries when he was involved in a terrifying smash in the mid-90s and medical experts feared that the French actor would never be able to walk again.

But the 41-year-old refused to accept the doctors' prognosis and fought back against the odds to regain full mobility and revive his film career.

Martinez told women's magazine Cosmopolitan how the motorcycle accident has changed him enormously, saying, "Even now, more than 10 years later, I'm happy just to walk in the morning.

"The accident helped me to learn the true price of life. It puts everything in perspective – money, fame. However, I'm no longer afraid of dying, I'm afraid of suffering."

Now appreciating the true value of life, the French star stood by Minogue as she fought valiantly against breast cancer and the Aussie singer subsequently described him as "the most honourable man I've met".

Putting the serious personal injuries he sustained in the motorbike accident behind him, Martinez told journalists, "My philosophy is to live for today because you could die tomorrow. None of us is here forever."
