Family use son's death to appeal for safe riding

The heartbroken family of a teenager who was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident have recorded an emotional DVD to mark Road Safety Awareness Week at the youngster's former school.

The 16-year-old Gloucestershire teen suffered serious head injuries in July when his 49cc moped hit a tree, and he died several days later.

Understandably distraught by the motorbike accident, the boy's father and sisters have vowed to make other youngsters realise the potential dangers of riding bikes and hope their DVD will stop other families going through similar tragedy.

The DVD, which features the boy's family talking about their loss, has been shown to every student at his school and the headmaster has described it as "very powerful and poignant".

The short recording is summed up by the teenager's tearful father saying: "All I'd like to say is, when you're out there on your motorbikes, go steady. There's a lot of things out there than can just snap your life away. Just be careful."

Commenting on her brother's death, his 18-year-old sister said: "When he got his bike he was the happiest kid in the world. To think he was killed just down the road from our house in such horrible circumstances is horrendous."

Another sister also spoke about the intention of the recording, saying: "The aim of the DVD is to try to appeal to people to be more careful. We wanted to try and open people's eyes to what it is like to lose someone in a motorcycle accident.

"It was really hard to do but if it saves one person's life then it's worth it."
