Drug scandal sprinter moves on from motorbike accident

A disgraced sprinter who was accused of faking a motorbike accident in order to avoid being drug tested has revealed he plans to make his comeback at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Former gold medallist Costas Kenteris was banned from competing for two years after he, along with a fellow Greek athlete, was supposedly involved in a motorcycle accident on the eve of the 2004 Olympics.

He subsequently missed a compulsory drug test and told sporting authorities he had been in shock and was recovering from minor personal injuries at the time and so had forgotten to provide a sample.

With his ban almost complete, Kenteris is now attempting to put the whole motorbike accident saga behind him and concentrate on his running.

He told reporters, "Before the 2004 Olympics I had decided that the 200 metres race there would be the last of my career. But the way things have turned out I think it is worth trying again.

"I am already racing against time. I am 33 but I want to simply race again. My biggest victory will be just kneeling down on the track at the start line."
