Blackspot sees new accident as Essex biker hurt

An Essex biker was badly injured in a motorcycle crash in Devon this weekend, causing delays to other people using the same main road. His personal injury was described as serious but not life-threatening by police.

The road traffic accident occurred at a known blackspot on the A30, a main artery road in the South West, and closed it for a number of hours. There have been many accidents on this stretch of road, and two fatalities, in the past eight years.

Local residents called for the authorities to clear up more quickly following a crash, as the traffic rapidly caused their villages to become congested.

The police, however, drew attention to the need to investigate every accident thoroughly. A spokesperson said, "This criticism is often levelled at us, but at the end of the day, we can't do it any quicker than we already do.

"We put a lot of resources into incidents like this, and we are trying to provide justice for everyone involved.

"You can't rush that kind of thing. It's a very professional inquiry and we have to do our maximum for everyone — victims, families and anyone who has been charged with anything.

"It's unfortunate that there are delays, but we have to do everything we can to get it right."

A reader of the local paper suggested that cushions lost from a sofa that another driver had been carrying may have contributed to the motorcycle crash, which, if so, may open the possibility of a no win, no fee compensation claim.
