Clooney in motorcycle accident medical records drama

Workers at a US hospital have been suspended without pay after allegedly peeking at George Clooney's medical records.

The popular movie star was cared for at a New Jersey hospital in September 2007 following a motorcycle accident that left him with personal injuries including broken ribs and cuts and bruises. It was while he was being treated for his motorbike accident injuries that the alleged snooping is supposed to have taken place.

US news sources disagree about the number of workers suspended and reports suggest anything between 27 and 40 hospital staff have been told to stay away from work until the matter is resolved.

It is not clear if any of the actor's personal details have been released to the media and he is sure to want to make a compensation claim if it emerges that they have been.

Speaking to journalists, 46-year-old George Clooney said, "While I very much believe in a patient's right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers."

Clooney is now well on the road to recovery following the motorcycle accident and is said to be looking forward to returning to work.
