Motorbike newsBiker stunned by discovery of axe-wielding maniacNever mind worrying about the possibility of a motorbike accident, it seems there are more dangerous things to be wary of when out on the road nowadays. That's what US biker Ronald Leroy Sleeper discovered as he spent a hot and sunny afternoon riding the roads of California last week. Rounding a bend on the strangely named Hog Canyon Road near San Miguel, he was shocked to discover a man standing in the middle of the carriageway and swinging an axe in a somewhat threatening manner. Why he had chosen that particular spot to show off his axe handling skills was unknown, but 48-year-old Mr Sleeper wasn't going to hang around to ask questions. Realising that if he tried to swerve around the crazed man in his path he would probably get decapitated, he decided to carry straight on. And carry straight on he did. His bike hit the maniac head-on, sending him flying into a ditch and causing Sleeper to lose balance and come off his machine. Although a little sore, he recovered his senses quickly enough to confiscate the axe and then, in a move that was astonishingly charitable for a man just assaulted with a deadly weapon, gave the injured assailant first aid before calling an ambulance. Ronald Sleeper is believed to have survived the incident with just cuts and bruises but his crazed attacker, identified as Aldrich Ross Peck, is still in hospital suffering from pelvis and head injuries. Not surprisingly, police are waiting to arrest him when he is discharged. |
