Speed camera vigilante vows to continue campaign

Claims that the latest speed cameras installed on Britain's roads are fireproof have been laughed off by notorious vigilante group, Motorists Against Detection (MAD).

Serco, the UK distributor of the infamous Gatso cameras, insist their most recent design is fitted with a heat-proof lining that can help prevent the camera being damaged if attacked with burning tyres.

But MAD, who have admitted to torching thousands of speed cameras across the country over the past few years, deny Serco's claims.

The militant group's leader, known only as Captain Gatso, told Motorcycle News, "We have found absolutely no evidence that these cameras exist. We believe this is spin."

He also revealed that his quest would not stop even if the cameras were indeed found to be heat-resistant, saying, "If they were fireproof, it wouldn't stop them being chopped down."

Speed cameras snap thousands of bikers every year but the authorities insist they are only installed to save lives and that they actually succeed in cutting the number of people killed and seriously injured in motorcycle accidents.

A spokesman from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service spoke out against the vigilante group's actions, telling reporters, "If I could say one thing to Captain Gatso it would be to undertake the group's campaign in another way.

"They really are putting lives at risk by continuing these acts of destruction."

But Captain Gatso, thought to be a family man in his 40s, refused to be repentant and vowed to continue with his campaign.

Discussing speed cameras, he said, "They are just cash machines by the roadside that lose people their licences and their livelihoods.

"We are now planning to target any and all cameras until the Government sees sense and revises its road safety policy."
