Italian scooter rider slapped with a record 144 penalty points

Fifteen minutes of madness was all it took for one scooter-riding youngster to clock up a record 144 penalty points.

The Italian teenager was spotted riding without a helmet in Turin but ignored repeated police requests for him to stop. He then attempted to flee from officers and so began his catalogue of law breaking.

In addition to refusing to stop, the young motorbike rider also jumped a red light, rode the wrong way down city centre roads, broke the speed limit numerous times and even mounted the pavement.

When the police finally nabbed him a quarter of an hour later, his rap sheet was increased even further after it was discovered that he had no motor insurance, no lights, no rear-view mirrors and that his number plate wasn’t attached properly to the bike.

Not surprisingly, the police confiscated the scooter - thought to be a Vespa or a Lambretta - and the youth was slapped with a €2,300 fine.

It later emerged that the teenager’s 144 penalty points was a new Italian record, smashing the 116 point total previously held by a Bolanzo youngster who embarked upon a terror filled ride back in April this year.

Italian motorcycle licence holders are permitted to accrue just twenty points before being banned and so it’s highly likely that this scooter-riding signore may be off the road for quite a while.
