Motorbike accident leaves rock star with injured shoulder

The ex-frontman of rock band The Libertines has revealed how a drunken motorbike accident left him unable to go on tour with his new group.

Carl Barat, who now fronts the Dirty Pretty Things, broke his collarbone after the smash in the car park of a Taiwanese bar.

The reason for the crash was a mystery until the 28-year-old told the BBC that he had been drinking saki immediately before the incident.

A statement on his band's website reports the singer as saying, "We did a show in Taiwan, afterwards we were in high spirits and went to a karaoke bar till the wee small hours.

"As we left the club, there were some kids outside in the car park, one of them was on an old Triumph. He beckoned me to jump on the back of the bike.

"Seemed like a good idea at the time so I jumped on and before I had a chance to grab onto anything he shot off, I stayed still."

Although Barat is now recovering from the personal injuries sustained in the motorcycle accident, his band have been forced to draft in a new guitarist until he is fit to play again.
