Motorbike accident leaves Romanian PM injured

The Prime Minister of Romania is said to be well on the road to recovery after being hurt in a motorbike accident earlier this week.

54-year-old Calin Popescu Tariceanu was involved in a collision with a car on a road north of the country's capital of Bucharest and was thrown from his bike. He was rushed to hospital by paramedics but was lucky to survive the crash with no serious personal injuries.

Local newspapers reported that the bike-loving PM was shocked by the incident but would not suffer any long-term damage. His leg was said to be in a cast and it is thought his injuries will not affect his busy schedule.

Oana Marinescu, a government spokesperson, spoke to reporters after visiting Tariceanu in hospital and said, "He has a few light injuries, a few scratches that have already been treated."

The Prime Minister's driving licence has been confiscated by the police, as Romanian law requires, and an investigation into the motorbike accident is now underway.
