Personal injury newsTop actor in motorcycle accident helmet appealVeteran Hollywood actor Gary Busey has taken time out from filming a Harley Davidson commercial to encourage motorcyclists to wear helmets. Speaking in Arizona, a state that only requires under-18s to wear a helmet, the Lethal Weapon and Point Break star warned, "It's a stupid way to live life, riding a vehicle that can kill you in a fraction of a second if you're not wearing a helmet. "It's ego, it's macho-ism, it's stupidity, it's having no concern for your family, no concern for yourself." Helmet use is an issue close to the cigar-puffing 62-year-old's heart. In 1988 he nearly died following a motorbike accident in California, suffering serious head injuries as a result of wearing no head protection. He said, "The motorcycle accident turned out to be a motorcycle blessing. I've been in prayer and meditation since 1988 on the helmet laws and helping people with brain injuries." He now uses his motorbike accident experience to warn others of the dangers and told a journalist, "The helmet law should be mandatory in every state." There have been several attempts to introduce such a law in Arizona, but they have all been met with huge opposition from bikers who see them as an imposition on personal freedom.
